After a devastating toxic snowfall kills millions, Juan Salvo and a group of survivors in Buenos Aires must resist an invisible threat from another world.
"The Eternaut" is a series based on the iconic Argentine comic work El Eternauta, created by Héctor Germán Oesterheld.
The Netflix series, like the comic its based upon, follows the premise of a end of the world alien invasion in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
So is it any good? The answer is mostly, yes. The story line follows that of the original comic but does leave a few too many, loose ends, which can feel a little frustrating.
Characterisations are excellent, as is the acting from the cast. There's a very believable, very human honesty, to the characters. This makes them feel real, as opposed to the larger than life effigies, often found in post apocalyptic series.
The setting works wonderfully too, with toxic snow from the invaders, killing those who do not don, appropriate protection. This creates a sense of sudden chaos, confinement and isolation. Its a somewhat surreal but entirely believable world, that's familiar but at the same time, menacing and alien.
In summary, this is an above average series that is, on balance, a capable adaptation of Oesterheld's work. Very definitely worth a look.
